Chapter 34

1 Josiah2977 was eight8083 years8141 old1121 when he began to reign,4427 and he reigned4427 in Jerusalem3389 one259 and thirty7970 years.8141

2 And he did6213 that which was right3477 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 and walked1980 in the ways1870 of David1732 his father,1 and declined5493 neither to the right hand,3225 nor to the left.8040

3 For in the eighth8083 year8141 of his reign,4427 while he1931 was yet5750 young,5288 he began2490 to seek1875 after the God430 of David1732 his father:1 and in the twelfth8147 6240 year8141 he began2490 to purge2891 853 Judah3063 and Jerusalem3389 from4480 the high places,1116 and the groves,842 and the carved images,6456 and the molten images.4541

4 And they broke down5422 853 the altars4196 of Baalim1168 in his presence;6440 and the images,2553 that834 were on high4605 above4480 5921 them, he cut down;1438 and the groves,842 and the carved images,6456 and the molten images,4541 he broke in pieces,7665 and made dust1854 of them, and strewed2236 it upon5921 6440 the graves6913 of them that had sacrificed2076 unto them.

5 And he burnt8313 the bones6106 of the priests3548 upon5921 their altars,4196 and cleansed2891 853 Judah3063 and Jerusalem.3389

6 And so did he in the cities5892 of Manasseh,4519 and Ephraim,669 and Simeon,8095 even unto5704 Naphtali,5321 with their mattocks2719 round about.5439

7 And when he had broken down5422 853 the altars4196 and the groves,842 and had beaten3807 the graven images6456 into powder,1854 and cut down1438 all3605 the idols2553 throughout all3605 the land776 of Israel,3478 he returned7725 to Jerusalem.3389

8 Now in the eighteenth8083 6240 year8141 of his reign,4427 when he had purged2891 the land,776 and the house,1004 he sent7971 853 Shaphan8227 the son1121 of Azaliah,683 and Maaseiah4641 the governor8269 of the city,5892 and Joah3098 the son1121 of Joahaz3099 the recorder,2142 to repair2388 853 the house1004 of the LORD3068 his God.430

9 And when they came935 to413 Hilkiah2518 the high1419 priest,3548 they delivered5414 853 the money3701 that was brought into935 the house1004 of God,430 which834 the Levites3881 that kept8104 the doors5592 had gathered622 of the hand4480 3027 of Manasseh4519 and Ephraim,669 and of all4480 3605 the remnant7611 of Israel,3478 and of all4480 3605 Judah3063 and Benjamin;1144 and they returned7725 to Jerusalem.3389

10 And they put5414 it in5921 the hand3027 of the workmen6213 4399 that had the oversight6485 of the house1004 of the LORD,3068 and they gave5414 it to the workmen6213 4399 that834 wrought6213 in the house1004 of the LORD,3068 to repair918 and amend2388 the house: 1004

11 Even to the artificers2796 and builders1129 gave5414 they it, to buy7069 hewn4274 stone,68 and timber6086 for couplings,4226 and to floor7136 853 the houses1004 which834 the kings4428 of Judah3063 had destroyed.7843

12 And the men376 did6213 the work4399 faithfully:530 and the overseers5329 of5921 them were Jahath3189 and Obadiah,5662 the Levites,3881 of4480 the sons1121 of Merari;4847 and Zechariah2148 and Meshullam,4918 of4480 the sons1121 of the Kohathites,6956 to set it forward;6485 and other of the Levites,3881 all3605 that could skill995 of instruments3627 of music.7892

13 Also they were over5921 the bearers of burdens,5449 and were overseers5329 of all3605 that wrought6213 the work4399 in any manner of service:5656 5656 and of4480 the Levites3881 there were scribes,5608 and officers,7860 and porters.7778

14 And when they brought out3318 853 the money3701 that was brought into935 the house1004 of the LORD,3068 Hilkiah2518 the priest3548 found4672 853 a book5612 of the law8451 of the LORD3068 given by3027 Moses.4872

15 And Hilkiah2518 answered6030 and said559 to413 Shaphan8227 the scribe,5608 I have found4672 the book5612 of the law8451 in the house1004 of the LORD.3068 And Hilkiah2518 delivered5414 853 the book5612 to413 Shaphan.8227

16 And Shaphan8227 carried935 853 the book5612 to413 the king,4428 and brought7725 853 the king4428 word1697 back again,5750 saying,559 All3605 that834 was committed5414 to thy servants,3027 5650 they1992 do6213 it.

17 And they have gathered together5413 853 the money3701 that was found4672 in the house1004 of the LORD,3068 and have delivered5414 it into5921 the hand3027 of the overseers,6485 and to5921 the hand3027 of the workmen.6213 4399

18 Then Shaphan8227 the scribe5608 told5046 the king,4428 saying,559 Hilkiah2518 the priest3548 hath given5414 me a book.5612 And Shaphan8227 read7121 it before6440 the king.4428

19 And it came to pass,1961 when the king4428 had heard8085 853 the words1697 of the law,8451 that he rent7167 853 his clothes.899

20 And the king4428 commanded6680 853 Hilkiah,2518 and Ahikam296 the son1121 of Shaphan,8227 and Abdon5658 the son1121 of Micah,4318 and Shaphan8227 the scribe,5608 and Asaiah6222 a servant5650 of the king's,4428 saying,559

21 Go,1980 inquire of1875 853 the LORD3068 for1157 me, and for1157 them that are left7604 in Israel3478 and in Judah,3063 concerning5921 the words1697 of the book5612 that834 is found:4672 for3588 great1419 is the wrath2534 of the LORD3068 that834 is poured out5413 upon us, because5921 834 our fathers1 have not3808 kept8104 853 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 to do6213 after all3605 that is written3789 in5921 this2088 book.5612

22 And Hilkiah,2518 and they that834 the king4428 had appointed, went1980 to413 Huldah2468 the prophetess,5031 the wife802 of Shallum7967 the son1121 of Tikvath,8616 the son1121 of Hasrah,2641 keeper8104 of the wardrobe;899 (now she1931 dwelt3427 in Jerusalem3389 in the college: )4932 and they spoke1696 to413 her to that2063 effect.

23 And she answered559 them, Thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel,3478 Tell559 ye the man376 that834 sent7971 you to413 me,

24 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068 Behold,2009 I will bring935 evil7451 upon5921 this2088 place,4725 and upon5921 the inhabitants3427 thereof, even853 all3605 the curses423 that are written3789 in5921 the book5612 which834 they have read7121 before6440 the king4428 of Judah: 3063

25 Because8478 834 they have forsaken5800 me, and have burned incense6999 unto other312 gods,430 that4616 they might provoke me to anger3707 with all3605 the works4639 of their hands;3027 therefore my wrath2534 shall be poured out5413 upon this2088 place,4725 and shall not3808 be quenched.3518

26 And as for413 the king4428 of Judah,3063 who sent7971 you to inquire1875 of the LORD,3068 so3541 shall ye say559 unto413 him, Thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel3478 concerning the words1697 which834 thou hast heard;8085

27 Because3282 thine heart3824 was tender,7401 and thou didst humble thyself3665 before4480 6440 God,430 when thou heardest8085 853 his words1697 against5921 this2088 place,4725 and against5921 the inhabitants3427 thereof, and humbledst thyself3665 before6440 me, and didst rend7167 853 thy clothes,899 and weep1058 before6440 me; I589 have even heard8085 thee also,1571 saith5002 the LORD.3068

28 Behold,2009 I will gather622 thee to413 thy fathers,1 and thou shalt be gathered622 to413 thy grave6913 in peace,7965 neither3808 shall thine eyes5869 see7200 all3605 the evil7451 that834 I589 will bring935 upon5921 this2088 place,4725 and upon5921 the inhabitants3427 of the same. So they brought7725 853 the king4428 word1697 again.

29 Then the king4428 sent7971 and gathered together622 853 all3605 the elders2205 of Judah3063 and Jerusalem.3389

30 And the king4428 went up5927 into the house1004 of the LORD,3068 and all3605 the men376 of Judah,3063 and the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem,3389 and the priests,3548 and the Levites,3881 and all3605 the people,5971 great4480 1419 and small:6996 and he read7121 in their ears241 853 all3605 the words1697 of the book5612 of the covenant1285 that was found4672 in the house1004 of the LORD.3068

31 And the king4428 stood5975 in5921 his place,5977 and made3772 853 a covenant1285 before6440 the LORD,3068 to walk1980 after310 the LORD,3068 and to keep8104 853 his commandments,4687 and his testimonies,5715 and his statutes,2706 with all3605 his heart,3824 and with all3605 his soul,5315 to perform6213 853 the words1697 of the covenant1285 which are written3789 in5921 this2088 book.5612

32 And he caused853 all3605 that were present4672 in Jerusalem3389 and Benjamin1144 to stand5975 to it. And the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389 did6213 according to the covenant1285 of God,430 the God430 of their fathers.1

33 And Josiah2977 took away5493 853 all3605 the abominations8441 out of4480 all3605 the countries776 that834 pertained to the children1121 of Israel,3478 and made853 all3605 that were present4672 in Israel3478 to serve,5647 even to serve5647 853 the LORD3068 their God.430 And all3605 his days3117 they departed5493 not3808 from following4480 310 the LORD,3068 the God430 of their fathers.1

3 І восьмого року царюва́ння свого, бувши ще юнако́м, розпоча́в він зверта́тися до Бога батька свого Давида, а дванадцятого року розпочав очищати Юду та Єрусалим від па́гірків, і Аста́рт, і бовва́нів рі́заних та литих.

4 І порозбивали перед ним Ваалові же́ртівники, а стовпи́ сонця, що були на них, він повиру́бував, а Астарти, і бовва́ни різані та литі полама́в і розтер, і розкидав на гроби́ тих, хто прино́сив їм жертви.

5 А кості жерців попалив на їхніх же́ртівниках, і очи́стив Юдею та Єрусалим.

6 А по містах Манасії, і Єфрема, і Симеона, і аж до Нефталима по їхніх руїнах навко́ло

7 порозбива́в же́ртівники та Аста́рти, і потовк бовва́ни на порох, а всі ідоли сонця повиру́бував в усьому Ізраїлевому кра́ї, і вернувся до Єрусалиму.

8 А вісімнадцятого року царюва́ння його́, по очи́щенні Кра́ю та Божого дому, послав він Шафана, сина Ацалії, і Маасею, зверхника міста, та Йоаха, та ка́нцлера Йоаха, сина Йохазового, щоб напра́вити дім Господа, Бога його.

9 І прийшли вони до первосвященика Хілкійї, і дали срібло, що було зне́сене до Господнього дому, яке зібрали Левити, що стерегли́ поро́га, з руки Манасії й Єфрема, та з усієї решти Ізраїля, і з усього Юди й Веніямина та ме́шканців Єрусалиму.

10 I дали́ на руку робітникі́в праці, приста́влених до Господнього дому, а робітники тієї праці, що робили в Господньому домі, віддали́ на відбудову та на направу Божого дому.

11 І дали́ вони те́слям, і будівни́чим, щоб купувати те́сане камі́ння та дере́ва на зв'я́зування та на покриття́ домів, що їх понищили Юдині царі.

12 А ті люди чесно вико́нували працю, а над ними були́ поста́влені Яхат та Овадія, Левити з синів Мерарієвих, і Захарій та Мешуллам із синів Кегатівців для керува́ння. А всі ті Левіти, що розумілися на музичних знаря́ддях,

13 були над носія́ми, і керували всіма́ робітника́ми на кожну роботу; а з Левитів були писарі́ й уря́дники та придве́рні.

14 А коли вони виймали срібло, прине́сене до Господнього дому, священик Хілкійя знайшов книгу Господнього Зако́ну, даного через Мойсея.

15 І відповів Хілкійя й сказав до пи́саря Шафана: „Я знайшов у Господньому домі книгу Зако́ну!“ І дав Хілкійя ту книгу Шафанові.

16 І приніс Шафан ту книгу до царя, і приніс царе́ві ще відповідь, говорячи: „Усе, що да́но через твоїх рабів, вони роблять.

17 І вони ви́сипали те срібло, що зна́йдене в Господньому домі, і дали його на руку приста́влених та на руку робітникі́в праці“.

18 І доніс писар Шафан цареві, говорячи: „Священик Хілкійя дав мені книгу“. І Шафан перечитав з неї перед царем.

19 І сталося, як цар почув слова́ книги Зако́ну, то розде́р свої шати...

20 І наказав цар Хілкійї, і Ахікамові, Шафановому синові, і Авдонові, Міхиному синові, і писареві Шафанові, і Асаї, царевому рабові, говорячи:

21 „Ідіть, зверніться до Господа про мене та про позосталих в Ізраїлі та в Юдеї, про слова́ цієї книги, що зна́йдена. Великий бо гнів Господній, що вилився на нас за те, що батьки наші не дотри́мували Господнього слова, щоб робити все, як написано в цій книзі“.

22 І пішов Хілкійя та ті, кому́ звелів цар, до пророчиці Хулди, жінки Шаллума, сина Токегата, сина Хасриного, сто́рожа шат, а вона сиділа в Єрусалимі на Ново́му Місті, — і говорили до неї про це.

23 А вона сказала до них: „Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: Скажіть чоловікові, що послав вас до мене:

24 Так говорить Господь: Ось Я наведу́ лихо на оце місце та на ме́шканців його, усі ті прокля́ття, що написані в книзі, яку читали перед Юдиним царем,

25 за те, що вони поки́нули Мене й кадили іншим бога́м, щоб гніви́ти Мене всіма́ ділами своїх рук. І вилився гнів Мій на це місце, — і він не погасне.

26 А Юдиному царе́ві, що послав вас звернутися до Господа, скажете йому так: Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів, — про ті слова́, які ти чув:

27 За те, що зм'якло твоє серце, і ти впокори́вся перед лицем Бога свого, коли ти почув слова́ Його на це місце та на ме́шканців його, і ти впокори́вся перед лицем Моїм, і розде́р свої шати та плакав перед Моїм лицем, то Я також почув, — говорить Господь.

28 Ось Я прилучу́ тебе до батькі́в твоїх, і ти бу́деш прилу́чений до гробі́в своїх у споко́ї, і очі твої не побачать усього того лиха, що Я наведу́ на оце місце та на ме́шканців його!“ І вони прине́сли відповідь цареві.

29 А цар послав, і зібрав усіх старши́х Юдеї та Єрусалиму.

30 І ввійшов до Господнього дому цар, і кожен муж Юдеї, і ме́шканці Єрусалиму, і священики, і Левити, і ввесь народ від великого й аж до мало́го, і він прочитав уго́лос слова́ книги Заповіту, зна́йденої в Господньому домі.

31 І став цар на своєму місці, і склав заповіта перед Господнім лицем, щоб ходити за Господом та додержувати заповіді Його, і сві́дчення Його, і устави Його всім серцем своїм та всім життям своїм, щоб вико́нувати слова́ того заповіту, що написані в тій книзі.

32 І наставив він кожного, хто знахо́дився в Єрусалимі та в Веніямині, до того. І ме́шканці Єрусалиму робили за заповітом Бога, Бога своїх батьків.

9 І прийшли вони до первосвященика Хілкійї, і дали срібло, що було зне́сене до Господнього дому, яке зібрали Левити, що стерегли́ поро́га, з руки Манасії й Єфрема, та з усієї решти Ізраїля, і з усього Юди й Веніямина та ме́шканців Єрусалиму.

10 And they put5414 it in5921 the hand3027 of the workmen6213 4399 that had the oversight6485 of the house1004 of the LORD,3068 and they gave5414 it to the workmen6213 4399 that834 wrought6213 in the house1004 of the LORD,3068 to repair918 and amend2388 the house: 1004

10 I дали́ на руку робітникі́в праці, приста́влених до Господнього дому, а робітники тієї праці, що робили в Господньому домі, віддали́ на відбудову та на направу Божого дому.

16 І приніс Шафан ту книгу до царя, і приніс царе́ві ще відповідь, говорячи: „Усе, що да́но через твоїх рабів, вони роблять.

17 І вони ви́сипали те срібло, що зна́йдене в Господньому домі, і дали його на руку приста́влених та на руку робітникі́в праці“.

18 І доніс писар Шафан цареві, говорячи: „Священик Хілкійя дав мені книгу“. І Шафан перечитав з неї перед царем.

19 And it came to pass,1961 when the king4428 had heard8085 853 the words1697 of the law,8451 that he rent7167 853 his clothes.899

19 І сталося, як цар почув слова́ книги Зако́ну, то розде́р свої шати...

20 And the king4428 commanded6680 853 Hilkiah,2518 and Ahikam296 the son1121 of Shaphan,8227 and Abdon5658 the son1121 of Micah,4318 and Shaphan8227 the scribe,5608 and Asaiah6222 a servant5650 of the king's,4428 saying,559

20 І наказав цар Хілкійї, і Ахікамові, Шафановому синові, і Авдонові, Міхиному синові, і писареві Шафанові, і Асаї, царевому рабові, говорячи:

21 Go,1980 inquire of1875 853 the LORD3068 for1157 me, and for1157 them that are left7604 in Israel3478 and in Judah,3063 concerning5921 the words1697 of the book5612 that834 is found:4672 for3588 great1419 is the wrath2534 of the LORD3068 that834 is poured out5413 upon us, because5921 834 our fathers1 have not3808 kept8104 853 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 to do6213 after all3605 that is written3789 in5921 this2088 book.5612

21 „Ідіть, зверніться до Господа про мене та про позосталих в Ізраїлі та в Юдеї, про слова́ цієї книги, що зна́йдена. Великий бо гнів Господній, що вилився на нас за те, що батьки наші не дотри́мували Господнього слова, щоб робити все, як написано в цій книзі“.

22 And Hilkiah,2518 and they that834 the king4428 had appointed, went1980 to413 Huldah2468 the prophetess,5031 the wife802 of Shallum7967 the son1121 of Tikvath,8616 the son1121 of Hasrah,2641 keeper8104 of the wardrobe;899 (now she1931 dwelt3427 in Jerusalem3389 in the college: )4932 and they spoke1696 to413 her to that2063 effect.

22 І пішов Хілкійя та ті, кому́ звелів цар, до пророчиці Хулди, жінки Шаллума, сина Токегата, сина Хасриного, сто́рожа шат, а вона сиділа в Єрусалимі на Ново́му Місті, — і говорили до неї про це.

23 And she answered559 them, Thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel,3478 Tell559 ye the man376 that834 sent7971 you to413 me,

23 А вона сказала до них: „Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: Скажіть чоловікові, що послав вас до мене:

24 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068 Behold,2009 I will bring935 evil7451 upon5921 this2088 place,4725 and upon5921 the inhabitants3427 thereof, even853 all3605 the curses423 that are written3789 in5921 the book5612 which834 they have read7121 before6440 the king4428 of Judah: 3063

24 Так говорить Господь: Ось Я наведу́ лихо на оце місце та на ме́шканців його, усі ті прокля́ття, що написані в книзі, яку читали перед Юдиним царем,

25 Because8478 834 they have forsaken5800 me, and have burned incense6999 unto other312 gods,430 that4616 they might provoke me to anger3707 with all3605 the works4639 of their hands;3027 therefore my wrath2534 shall be poured out5413 upon this2088 place,4725 and shall not3808 be quenched.3518

25 за те, що вони поки́нули Мене й кадили іншим бога́м, щоб гніви́ти Мене всіма́ ділами своїх рук. І вилився гнів Мій на це місце, — і він не погасне.

26 And as for413 the king4428 of Judah,3063 who sent7971 you to inquire1875 of the LORD,3068 so3541 shall ye say559 unto413 him, Thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel3478 concerning the words1697 which834 thou hast heard;8085

26 А Юдиному царе́ві, що послав вас звернутися до Господа, скажете йому так: Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів, — про ті слова́, які ти чув:

27 Because3282 thine heart3824 was tender,7401 and thou didst humble thyself3665 before4480 6440 God,430 when thou heardest8085 853 his words1697 against5921 this2088 place,4725 and against5921 the inhabitants3427 thereof, and humbledst thyself3665 before6440 me, and didst rend7167 853 thy clothes,899 and weep1058 before6440 me; I589 have even heard8085 thee also,1571 saith5002 the LORD.3068

27 За те, що зм'якло твоє серце, і ти впокори́вся перед лицем Бога свого, коли ти почув слова́ Його на це місце та на ме́шканців його, і ти впокори́вся перед лицем Моїм, і розде́р свої шати та плакав перед Моїм лицем, то Я також почув, — говорить Господь.

28 Behold,2009 I will gather622 thee to413 thy fathers,1 and thou shalt be gathered622 to413 thy grave6913 in peace,7965 neither3808 shall thine eyes5869 see7200 all3605 the evil7451 that834 I589 will bring935 upon5921 this2088 place,4725 and upon5921 the inhabitants3427 of the same. So they brought7725 853 the king4428 word1697 again.

28 Ось Я прилучу́ тебе до батькі́в твоїх, і ти бу́деш прилу́чений до гробі́в своїх у споко́ї, і очі твої не побачать усього того лиха, що Я наведу́ на оце місце та на ме́шканців його!“ І вони прине́сли відповідь цареві.

29 Then the king4428 sent7971 and gathered together622 853 all3605 the elders2205 of Judah3063 and Jerusalem.3389

29 А цар послав, і зібрав усіх старши́х Юдеї та Єрусалиму.

30 And the king4428 went up5927 into the house1004 of the LORD,3068 and all3605 the men376 of Judah,3063 and the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem,3389 and the priests,3548 and the Levites,3881 and all3605 the people,5971 great4480 1419 and small:6996 and he read7121 in their ears241 853 all3605 the words1697 of the book5612 of the covenant1285 that was found4672 in the house1004 of the LORD.3068

30 І ввійшов до Господнього дому цар, і кожен муж Юдеї, і ме́шканці Єрусалиму, і священики, і Левити, і ввесь народ від великого й аж до мало́го, і він прочитав уго́лос слова́ книги Заповіту, зна́йденої в Господньому домі.

31 And the king4428 stood5975 in5921 his place,5977 and made3772 853 a covenant1285 before6440 the LORD,3068 to walk1980 after310 the LORD,3068 and to keep8104 853 his commandments,4687 and his testimonies,5715 and his statutes,2706 with all3605 his heart,3824 and with all3605 his soul,5315 to perform6213 853 the words1697 of the covenant1285 which are written3789 in5921 this2088 book.5612

31 І став цар на своєму місці, і склав заповіта перед Господнім лицем, щоб ходити за Господом та додержувати заповіді Його, і сві́дчення Його, і устави Його всім серцем своїм та всім життям своїм, щоб вико́нувати слова́ того заповіту, що написані в тій книзі.

32 And he caused853 all3605 that were present4672 in Jerusalem3389 and Benjamin1144 to stand5975 to it. And the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389 did6213 according to the covenant1285 of God,430 the God430 of their fathers.1

32 І наставив він кожного, хто знахо́дився в Єрусалимі та в Веніямині, до того. І ме́шканці Єрусалиму робили за заповітом Бога, Бога своїх батьків.

33 And Josiah2977 took away5493 853 all3605 the abominations8441 out of4480 all3605 the countries776 that834 pertained to the children1121 of Israel,3478 and made853 all3605 that were present4672 in Israel3478 to serve,5647 even to serve5647 853 the LORD3068 their God.430 And all3605 his days3117 they departed5493 not3808 from following4480 310 the LORD,3068 the God430 of their fathers.1

33 І Йосі́я повикидав усі поганські гидо́ти з усіх країв, що в Ізраїлевих синів, і змусив кожного, хто знахо́дився в Ізраїлі, служити Господе́ві, їхньому Богові. За всіх днів його вони не відступали від Господа, Бога своїх батьків.
